Temporary Contracts…
Temporary assignments can vary greatly in timescale,
covering sickness, holidays, maternity leave and specific contracted
projects. Some companies favour taking a member of staff on a temporary
basis before offering a permanent position.
Assignments can differ from one week to the next meaning that as a temp
you may have the potential of a variety of work experiences at different
companies.
As with permanent placements the company will contact us with their
requirements, sometimes at very short notice, which is why we ask you to
be as flexible as possible. We then search the database to find the most
suitable candidate(s).
We then contact you to confirm availability and give you as much
information about the placement as possible including; the temporary
position, address of the company, your contact, the assignment dates,
hours and the rate you will be paid per hour.
All details of temporary contracts are confirmed to you in writing,
though if booked at short notice this may reach you after the assignment
has commenced.
If you are unable to work your contracted hours, please contact us on
the morning of the day you are absent (or leave a message on the answer
machine if you are calling before 9am). This enables us to inform the
company and find a replacement for you if needed.
Prior to your first assignment you will given two copies of our ‘Terms
of Engagement for Temporary Workers’ to sign, (please read carefully
taking into account section 7. Conduct of Assignments). This includes a
section in relation to the Working Time Regulations 1998 whereby you are
not permitted to work over 48 hours in one week unless you have signed
the opt out agreement. Please ensure you have completed the bank details
form on the copy which you return to our office and retain the second
copy for your personal records.
We will require a P45. If you do not have a current P45 you will be
required fill in a P46 form to ensure you are coded for tax correctly.
If you are a student you will need to complete a Student Tax Exemption
Form, P38(S). Wages…
In all temporary cases the agency is responsible for
the payment of wages, for which you will be required to fill in a time
sheet each week with the hours you have worked to the nearest 15
minutes. Timesheet…
This is your responsibility and must be signed off at
the end of each week or end of assignment, by yourself and by your line
manager/contact. The white copy is then retained by the company.
The yellow and pink copies must be returned to us by Monday morning (if
it is not possible then a faxed copy will suffice initially). Late
timesheets will result in your pay being delayed until the following
week. Wages are paid directly into your account via BACS on Thursday
each week, for the previous weeks work.
Holiday Pay …
Holiday pay is accumulated on a weekly basis, please
see section 5 of your Terms of Engagement. Holiday forms can be
requested from the office. Mobile Phones …
We ask you to leave your mobile phone switched off
whilst on an assignment, if you are expecting an important personal call
a message can be left with us and we will contact you via the company.
Due to new legislation if you are required to drive whilst on an
assignment, using a mobile phone whilst driving unless ‘hands free’ is
prohibited. Emails …
Please do not send personal emails using the
company’s equipment. Health & Safety…
You must comply with all health and safety rules
whilst on an assignment. Please make sure you are suitably dressed for
your assignment e.g. wearing any safety equipment supplied, steel toe
caps if required, and adhere to the company’s heath and safety policies.
Should you have any concerns please contact our office immediately.
The use of any illegal substances or alcohol is strictly prohibited
whilst on a temporary assignment. Permanent
Positions…
When a permanent vacancy is received we search our
database to find suitable candidates for the position. We can do this by
using the specifications the company has given us and finding out what
experience and qualifications are required. We will contact those
candidates who possess the relevant skills and experience to see if they
are interested in being put forward for the position.
To perform this task accurately it is important that we have received
relevant and correct information from you at the time of registration.
Should you undertake any courses or gain any qualifications after
registration, it is important to keep us updated, as it could be used to
your advantage.
Companies usually request to see CVs, which is why we ask to have a
copy, preferably on computer. ( if you would like advice upon writing
your CV see attached sheet).
We arrange interviews for those short listed and try to gain as much
feedback as possible. Upon attending an arranged interview please
make sure you are appropriately dressed e.g. smart dress attire worn for
office related interview.
To assist us in looking for a permanent placement for you, it is helpful
to know the salary required and if currently employed, the notice period
required.
Should your situation change and you become available for temporary work
also, please contact us so we can amend your details and consider you
for any suitable temporary assignments. |
